Healthy Meal suggestions for China Lights Restaurant

The other reviews are spot on and the 4 star is partially because the food is good but also because there is no other chinese food in Eagle River worth having :) So the food is good. I have found that it is better there than take-out. I realized that it is partially because of the drive home, but it is less than 10 minutes so the difference shouldn't be as large as it is. Almost like the cooks pay more attention when cooking for customers in the restaurant. They have good combination dinners for a good price (considering Alaska and Eagle River). I laugh at the Schezuan chicken and beef combinations because they are completely different dishes yet from the name there should be a chicken and a beef dish in the same type of sauce / same vegetables but it is not. Either way that is what I get almost every time. Hot and sour soup is good with lots of stuff. Eggrolls are OK Best Chinese food in Eagle River (not best asian food in ER as a new place has opened up) oh and yeah the service is slow and if they tell you 20 mins on the phone be there in 15 :)

(Ordered delivery) $50 for 2 not-quite-warm meals that were unceremoniously scooped off the buffet line, over-cooked rice and flavorless, not-warm-either dumplings. I was really craving some Chinese food so I was extremely disappointed. ESPECIALLY for the price. 0/10 would not order again.

This place is alright. We ordered orange chicken ( it came with white rice) , we also ordered vegetable fried rice and the appetizer sampler. The food was more than enough for two. I wasn't a big fan of the taste of the orange chicken it tasted like a very artificial orange taste. The fried rice however looked very fresh. There were barely any people here today and yet the service was slow. The quality of service definitely needs some improvement. I am not sure that I'll be returning.

Pretty good food, but I prefer to order off the menu rather than the buffet. The decor is a tad dark and depressing and it never seems busy, other than takeouts. For Eagle River it's great to have Chinese Food like this, I'll be back anyway.

This place is horrible. They always get your order wrong. The food sucks and is over priced for the quality. I haven't been in years and I never plan to go back. The reviews here speak for themselves. Go to Muldoon and get 100 times better food for the same price!

Come to this place if u like super greasy fried foods. I had the fish and shrimp, I could literally squeeze the shrimp and watch the grease pour out. Never again...

Worst service I have experienced in a very long time. When we walked in the girl at the front was on the phone and the lady waiting tables shouted across the restaurant for us to just sit down. After that it was a good five minutes before anyone came by to see about drinks (mind you there were only 4 other tables seated in the restaurant and they all had their food already) when the waitress finally came to take the order she was only half paying attention and started to walk away while we were in the middle of placing our order. Shouting at customers seems to be the norm, the waitress interrupted my date while she was trying to place her order to tell some other patrons to just sit down. The food was alright, after we both had finished the waitress was no where to be found, so I went and found my own to go container packaged up our food and then walked up to the front. The girl at the front still on the phone had us wait till she finished her conversation. Then asked how everything was. When I told her the service was poor she agreed. Afterwards both of us had fairly bad indigestion. I would not recommend this place at all.

I am well aware General Tso chicken has no place in a low sodium diet if that's what you're into. That being said, that was the single saltiest plate of Chinese food I've ever had. Won't be returning. However they got my order out quickly and provided adequate service so I can't 1 star them.

After a fourth (the last 3 were under whelming but not down right horrible) and final bad experience here I am leaving a review to save others the time and money they would waste here. On our visit this evening, we waited 19 minutes before a young girl huffed over and said "just sit already!" She brought over two glasses of water, one napkin and two forks for our party of four. After another 15 minutes had past the older server came by and asked if we were ready to order. Seeing we had no menus she brought us one for the table to share. We ordered crab cheese wonton, beef with broccoli, moo shu pork, sweet and sour chicken and cashew chicken. The only thing that was edible was the beef with broccoli, every thing else tasted old, dried out and overly salty. Also one small saucer of white rice was brought out for all four dishes and we were told the moo shu no longer comes with pancakes or plum sauce. Very disappointed in the food, poor service and the fact we spent 2 hours and $77 not including tip to leave hungry and upset. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

My sisters and I ate here earlier tonight, because I was hungry for Chinese food, and had eaten their buffet in the past and had decent food. Tonight was the exception, we all ordered a combination meal with two meat dishes, mine being moo goo gai pan & schezuan chicken. The wonton soup was the best part of the meal, if that gives you a clue. Let me give you the details; fatty coated meat, too much sauce/grease, day (or week) old egg rolls, dry fried rice with obviously dried out old scraps of grey ish "meat". I wouldn't recommend eating there under any circumstances, buyer beware!!

I work as a bartender and sometimes I order in dinner. I order the chicken fried rice and received a bonus, a staple in my rice! No thanks china lights. That's the last time I order out from you

Remember the duck i mentioned? Scratch that. I popped in the other day to pick some up and instead was served 4 pieces of dried out root bark vaguely reminiscient of a bird. When I called to complain, they refused to give me a refund or apology, instead offering to give me THE SAME AWFUL DISH in exchange, and also having to drive all the way back there. They were very rude and the food itself was inedible by all standard. I will never eat here again, and encourage anyone reading this to do the same.

Good food, but service is terrible. They have no idea how to treat a customer! Rude on the phone, rude in person, rude all together. Bummer they are the ONLY chinese food in town! :(

China Lights has been a fixture in Eagle River for many years. Many restaurants have come and gone and China Lights is still there. This is a family owned establishment that serves consistently good food. My wife and I have eaten here several times and have enjoyed it every time. They will make substitutions (for a fee) if you ask nicely. They serve a lunch buffet that is a bit expensive for the selection but it is still good.

The food is good and plentiful. The service is absolutely horrible. While we were eating, we saw them seat another table and they ended up leaving because no one ever came back for them. We had to find our waitress to get our bill and then bring it back to her when we put the payment in there.

Best Chinese food served in Eagle River. Avoid the other 2 places at all costs. Like my wife reviewed earlier, wait staff is lacking, but food always very good. Only food item lacking were the egg rolls, but everything else great. I usually get sweet and sour chicken or beef and broccoli

I agree with Robert completely, but must add that the service isn't the best. There are two or three young girls who seem to be put out by having to seat you or bring you high chair, and the older waitresses look and act as though they just woke up constipated. The food, however, is pretty darned good! If you can get past the sour pusses, then you'll enjoy the meal.

I've ordered out a few times and the food was pretty good. I normally get the General Tsou's chicken (~$13 with rice). The 3 times I've eaten here with others, the food was really bland or over fried. It's just too hit or miss for me to continue going.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
